vintage jar series

when i’m cruising around a thrift store — never looking for anything in particular– and i see something great, i always have this feeling that it’s found me, not the other way around…    i first came across some vintage canning jars in the summer of 2008 and made my first molds.  when i took the resulting pieces to ontario with me to see what friends and family thought, all these other great jars started finding me everywhere i went! my collection has just kept growing — and i’m not anywhere near being bored of making these great objects.    in fact, when my nanna recently gave me her one and only beaver jar, i couldn’t wait to get it back to my studio in vancouver to see what those details looked like in porcelain…  i got my answer just the other day!  here it is:

technical details and care instructions:

these porcelain jars have been slipcast with molds made from the original vintage glass canning jars;  all moldmaking is done in-studio by heyday design.  all jars have been glazed on the inside as well as the outer lip with a clear glaze that is foodsafe and watertight:  you can safely use your jar to as a cup to drink from or as a vase for flowers.  the outside of each piece has been left unglazed to best show off the shadowed nuances of the text/graphics.  the porcelain is vitrified, or non-porous;  if the unglazed surface gets scuffed, simply clean it with water, baking soda and a toothbrush.  as with all your favourite ceramic and glass objects, handwashing is recommended.
